  • North Sarasota — neighborhoods along US-41 and US-301 north of downtown Sarasota
  • Areas near Sarasota Bradenton International Airport (SRQ) — including the Tallevast and US-301 corridors
  • The University Town Center (UTC) area — east along University Parkway near I-75

Driving Conditions North of Sarasota

University Parkway

University Parkway is one of the busiest east-west roads in the region, linking US-41, US-301, the airport, Lakewood Ranch and I-75 (Exit 213). Traffic around the University Town Center mall, the Benderson Park area and the I-75 interchange can back up at rush hour and on weekends, leading to rear-end collisions and lane-change sideswipes.

US-41 (Tamiami Trail)

US-41 runs north from downtown Sarasota past New College, The Ringling museum and the airport, then into Bradenton, where it becomes 1st Street. The stretch near the airport and the county line is busy with commuters, airport traffic and seasonal visitors, and frequent signals and turning lanes keep fender benders common.

US-301

US-301 parallels US-41 a bit farther east, running through North Sarasota and past Tallevast before entering Manatee County. It's a key commuter and truck route with a mix of industrial and residential traffic near the airport.

Seasonal and event traffic

From roughly January through April, seasonal residents and visitors add a lot of traffic. Events at UTC, Ed Smith Stadium during spring training and the airport's busy travel days make parking lots and intersections more crowded. That's prime time for door dings and scraped bumpers, which are often good candidates for paintless dent repair.

Storms and flooding

Heavy summer rain can cause street flooding in low-lying parts of North Sarasota, and tropical storms can bring flooding and wind damage. If your vehicle was damaged by water or debris, our storm and flood damage and hail damage repair pages can help.

Why Cross the County Line for Repairs?

Plenty of good shops exist in Sarasota, and you should choose the one you're most comfortable with. Here's what North Sarasota and University Park drivers tell us they value about coming to Firkins:

  • Proximity. From much of the University Parkway corridor, our 1st Street shop is closer than shops in central or south Sarasota.
  • Full service under one roof. Frame work, paint and body repair all happen in our own facility, with an on-site Mopar parts department.
  • Convenience extras. Complimentary pickup and delivery, free loaner vehicles or rental help, a shuttle service and secure overnight storage.
  • A lifetime warranty on parts and labor for repairs we perform.
  • Spanish-speaking staff for customers who prefer to talk through their repair in Spanish.

If you're comparing shops, our checklist for choosing a body shop walks through the questions worth asking anywhere you go.

Safety Systems and Modern Vehicles

Many vehicles around UTC and University Park carry radar, cameras and parking sensors. After a collision, these systems may need to be checked or recalibrated. Ask your estimator how your vehicle's systems will be verified, and read more in our article on ADAS sensors after a collision.

Insurance and Your Right to Choose

We work with all insurance companies and help with claim paperwork. Even if your insurer recommends a Sarasota shop, you generally have the right in Florida to choose where your vehicle is repaired. Read more on our right to choose a body shop page or see our insurance claim help service.
